Cricket at Quick 1888
Quick 1888 is the oldest sports club in the region. This traditional club was founded in 1888 in Nijmegen as a cricket club and this sport is still a lively and successful part of what now is an omni-sports club that includes various other sports. Quick 1888 now is the biggest cricket club apart from those clubs situated in the larger cities in the west of the Netherlands.
Cricket
Cricket in the Netherlands is being played in the months of May until September. A perfect sport for those who have other sporting commitments during the winter months, like football or field hockey and like to extend their sporting activities right throughout the summer. Like every other sport, cricket is being played on several levels. Having a good time while playing the sport is the main aim of the club, but the cricket in Nijmegen is also played in a very competitive way.
Teams
The Quick 1888 ground has two cricket fields, with artificial wickets. One of them is a Notts weave artificial matting; the other one is the old fashioned coconut matting, that needs to be replaced a.s.a.p.! We also have an indoor facility that enables us to run a successful winter training program. Currently there are two men's teams, a veteran's team, a women's team and we're trying to create a youth team (see below).
Quick 1888
The club always welcomes new members. Both those with previous playing experience elsewhere and people who would like to try a new sport, can be accommodated. Feel free to join us during a practice session or drop by on a Saturday or Sunday between May and September and our members of the cricket community at Quick 1888 will welcome you and provide you with any information you may require.
Youth
Currently Quick 1888 doesn't have a full youth squad (boys and/or girls). The club's trying its best to get that organised in the near future. In case you have a son or a daughter who'd like to play cricket, please don't hesitate to call the secretary at +31-264722976.
Indoor training sessions
Dates for 2014 will be revealed after the AGM in November. Should you require additional information, please call the above mentioned number of the secretary.
